Solid CRA lined pipes or CRA clad (cladding) pipes are known to be corrosion-resistant that consists of an inner pipe which is also corrosion-resistant and a carbon steel outer pipe which can withstand external and internal pressure
CRA clad or lined steel pipe can be equally allocated pressure to backing material & corrosion-resisting to layer. Material combinations dramatically reduce the cost. Furthermore, cost effectiveness increases as length grows, and operational expenses are lower than corrosion inhibitor in a long period.
For clad pipes, the layer of Corrosion Resistant Alloy (CRA) is applied using different procedures that create a metallurgical bond, while the lined pipe is applied through a mechanical bond between the CRA and the C-Mn pipe.
Cladding (clad) pipe key point process is to use metallurgical (weld overlay or co-extrusion) methods for bonding. First is to cladding CRA material to steel plate, then forming cladding steel plate to pipe then welding to the clad pipe.
Bonding Process of CRA lined pipes
To bond CRA lined pipes using a Full-Length Pipe Expander, the outer and inner pipe are telescopic aligned and subsequentially positioned on the outfeed and infeed loading cart. The pipe is increasingly fed using the loading cart over the expanding head.
To ensure uniform mechanical bonding of the outer and inner pipe over the whole contact area, a special expander head design is utilized. The Full-Length Pipe Expander is equipped with a linear transducer that accurately measures the position of the dies so the optimum point in mechanical bonding for each outer and inner pipe material combination can be attained.
Both clad or lined pipes consist of a C-Mn pipe which has a layer of CRA in contact with the production fluid and hence, its corrosive environment. In the case of clad pipes, the layer of CRA is applied using different procedures that create a metallurgical bond, while the lined pipe is applied through a mechanical bond between the CRA and the C-Mn pipe.
Safety
Regarding corrosion environment, CRA clad or lined steel pipe selects suitable corrosion resisting alloy or stainless steel as layer, totally owns the performance like CRA materials. Comparing with inhibiter, this solution avoids the risk resulted in complicated management process, and it guarantees operational safety.
